The majority of the documents were initially classified in the State Security Service. In September 2015, all documents were declassified. As mentioned in SOA's Public Report for 2016, “the Agency's intention is that these valuable archival documents become available to the scholarly and general public, thereby enabling a clearer overview of that period of Croatian history.” (SOA. 2016 Public Report, p. 42).
A notice posted on the Agency's web pages on 25 September 2015 also pointed out that the acquisition of the State Security Service Collection by the Croatian State Archives “distances the SOA from any connection with the activities, methods and traditions of the former State Security Service.” It was concluded that after doing so, “the SOA has been recognised as a modern security-intelligence agency of a democratic state which adheres to the practices of services in states with long democratic traditions where this pertains to declassification of documents for which there are no longer grounds for maintaining confidentiality.”

The second exhibition of the “Special Collection” at NAMU took place in 2015. Apart from the paintings in the main exposition, 98 additional artworks were shown. This exhibition required six years of preparation, as the paintings to be displayed were unreeled, restored, and researched. Because of ongoing research, the catalogue could not be printed at that time.

The various departments of the Federal Commissioner for the Records of the State Security Service of the former German Democratic Republic (BStU) have been responsible for numerous publications detailing the process of historical appraisal of the German Democratic Republic, with a particular focus on its security service. They have also participated in large numbers of exhibitions, a majority of which dealt with the legacy of Stasi archival records. In 2015 a digital media library was created containing thematic dossiers as well as an ever-growing selection of chronologically-organized files, photos, audio and video clips from 1949-1990.

The volume Metronom’70: Cornel Chiriac în documentele Securității by Cornel Chiriac’s best friend, Mircea Udrescu, was launched on 23 May 2015, on the occasion of the annual international book fair in Bucharest, BOOKFEST. This is the third volume that Mircea Udrescu has published about Cornel Chiriac. While the other two volumes approached the subject of his childhood and his activity at Radio Free Europe, the present volume reconstructs step by step the Securitate’s investigation of Cornel Chiriac, which began in 1963 and ended with his death in 1975. In fact, the volume is a combination of memoirs and archival documents that sheds light on Cornel Chiriac’s personality and explains how his rebellious nature brought him into trouble with the Romanian authorities and especially the Securitate. Mircea Udrescu’s analysis of the Securitate documents shows how the Romanian secret police approached the “Chiriac problem,” identified their sources of information, and assigned them specific roles in the informative surveillance of Cornel Chiriac in Romania and in the Federal Republic of Germany. The book launch was attended by a large audience, which included former listeners of Cornel Chiriac’s musical shows, musicians, and young people equally interested in finding out more about the life and activity of one of well-known radio voices during the 1960s and 1970s.

These photographs were put in an album by the KGB in the 1970s, thus forming the collection. After 1989, the ex-KGB officer took the album away and kept it privately. In 2015, he took the album to the researcher, and the researcher passed it to the Institute’s Manuscript Department. In 2016, a few photographs in this collection were sent to the project coordinators for the project’s internet site.
