The European Film Gateway (EFG) project was initiated by the Association des Cinémathèques Européennes (ACE) and the Europeana Foundation, and operated from September 2008 to August 2011. The Polish National Film Archive joined the project in 2010. EFG enables presenting collections of various European film archives (i.e. French, Romanian, German, Portuguese, Belgic, Italian, Estonian, and Polish) on Europeana.eu website. Overall, 16 archives and 6 other partner institutions contributed to the EFG webportal. Targeted at the scientific researchers and the interested public alike, the EFG facilitates online access to historical documents and leads directly to the archives that hold the originals.
The European Network of Remembrance and Solidarity was created by the ministers of culture of Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. In 2014 Romania joined the Network. Its purpose is to document and promote the study of
twentieth-century history and how this is remembered. Its fields of interest center on periods of dictatorial rule, wars, and resistance to oppression.
It supports academic research, educational projects and promotional events through an international network of scholars and ENRS partner institutions. The Network's activities contribute to building better relations between European societies through discussing our common past.

This network has organized an exchange among multiple East European secret police archives. Aside from highlighting national experiences, this cooperation also allows for better processing of the Communist past, as well as the streamlining and greater representation of interests. The founding members include institutions from Bulgaria, Poland, Rumania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Germany. In 2013, further archives from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Slovenia were given guest member status.
