Jelena Kohoutová (born Mašínová) has been the third wife of Pavel Kohout since 1970. She was born on the 14^th of October, 1941, in Prague. Kohoutová started working in the Orbis publishing house, and after studying dramaturgy at FAMU she worked mainly as a screenwriter. Together with her husband she wrote several plays, but she also devoted herself to independent work. In 1977 she signed the Charter 77. The next year she travelled with Pavel Kohout to Austria, but they were deprived of Czechoslovak citizenship and had to stay abroad. In forced exile she participated in the activities of her husband and after 1989 she has been living with him alternately in Vienna, Prague and Sázava.
