Gergelj Urkom was born in 1940 in Skorenovac. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade in 1969. He belonged to the Belgrade Group of Six Artists that was active in the ‘New Art Practice’ movement. To a large extent, his work focuses on autonomous artistic problems that he elaborates in detail. He has lived in London since 1973.
